Sonora Becomes a Meeting Point for Cinema: Festival de Cine de Sonora 2026

Hermosillo has a new space for cinema. The Festival de Cine de Sonora was born in northern Mexico with a clear purpose: to create a screen of our own, one that allows us to see the world from different perspectives.

At DVL Film House, we are proud to be part of this first edition as both organizers and sponsors, supporting a project that understands cinema as both an industry and a cultural territory. We are joining forces with Noro, Instituto Sonorense de la Juventud, ISC, Film Tucson, Cineteca Sonora, La Tuerca, Julian Film, Jacalito Post, among others.

A Kind of Cinema That Doesn’t Always Find a Place

The festival is committed to free and independent cinema—the kind that does not always find space within conventional distribution. Films that raise questions about the human experience, reveal intimate landscapes, and explore collective territories. Cinema built through narrative freedom, one that breaks away from formulas and refuses to be limited by convention.

This vision also includes the Sonoran Short Film Competition, a space created to support and elevate new voices from the region.

More Than Screenings

The program will include conversations, workshops, and masterclasses: spaces designed for meaningful encounters between filmmakers, students, industry professionals, and audiences.

This first edition is built around three main pillars:

1. Films that expand the audience’s perspective.

2. Workshops and encounters with the industry.

3. Dialogue between filmmakers and audiences.

This edition will present an international showcase of contemporary cinema and launch the Sonoran Short Film Competition, along with educational activities designed to support emerging talent in northern Mexico.

We believe in projects that strengthen the cultural life of a region while helping build an industry. The Festival de Cine de Sonora is exactly that: a new screen, created to stay.

From Sonora, cinema finds a new place to live.
